On July 26, 2024, a parade of 10,500 athletes swam through the Seine in the center of Paris, on more than 200 boats. Look a little closer and you will find the USA boat. 594 athletes happily smiled and waved from that boat. This was no different than all the other Olympic years, but for Carmel High School, it was something very important that had never happened before. Standing on that boat was Alex Shackell, a senior at Carmel High School, making history. Our first Olympian to walk the halls of our school. Not just an Olympian; a gold and silver medalist. On August 3rd, 2024, Alex won gold in 4x100m Medley Relay for swimming, and silver on August 1st for 4×200 Freestyle Relay. This is a moment in history that our school will never forget. Once again, here is another time to say “proud to be a Greyhound”.
