Over the past year, Carmel High School students and parents have had several requests for new courses to be implemented into the CHS course catalog. Many of these consist of cultural and literacy courses, let’s take a look at Carmel High School’s new class options.
Classes such as Arabic language, as well as Heritage Speakers of Arabic and Spanish are the new language courses being offered. As there are also new courses for influencing literacy, Principles of Literacy and World Literature are some new literature classes. The main goal of this is to increase proficiency and bi-literacy in languages that students speak at home. As Carmel High School’s writing and language programs continue to grow, we also get to see more opportunities in business classes at CHS. As the Personal Finances course was already exclusive to upperclassmen, the new Finance and Investment course with its own capstones opens the ability for students to take finance earlier in their highschool career. Along with this, CHS will also be offering many new Dance Performance courses, AP Precalculus, Graphic Design and Layout, Advanced Interior Design, and many other courses into the 2024-25 year.
With these new courses, and many others along the way, how will students be able to enroll into these new courses being offered? Students will need to meet with their counselors to look at their requirements and options in Carmel’s program of studies. Although these new courses have been requested by students and parents, it is unlikely that all twenty-five will be implemented as there may not be enough student interest in some courses being newly offered next year.
