Carmel football took another step towards week one with the annual Blue/Gold Scrimmage this morning. The UV index of 9 didn’t stop the hounds from putting on a show for the loyal fans who showed out for the exhibition.
The offense kicked the day off with an effortless drive, ending with an untouched run by Collin Johnson for a touchdown. The defense did find its footing, however, as the offense struggled to move the chains as the scrimmage continued. While the first unit was limited, both sides of the ball showed promise.
Carmel’s defensive depth should prove to be a difference-maker. As defensive back, Jabril Randolph put it, “We’re a team that’s going to tackle people.” The opposite may be true for the offense, with very few positions having trustworthy backups. For the hounds, a healthy season should mean a winning season.
With week one being less than two weeks away, the anticipation in the Hound’s locker room is high, as the Blue and Gold look ahead to the season opener against Homestead, a rematch of week one of last season. With both quarterbacks from last year’s nail-biter returning, it should shape up to be another thriller at Carmel Stadium!
