Week 2 of college football was an incredibly exciting weekend, with blowouts, upsets and multiple games in overtime.
The biggest storyline of the 2nd week was Texas beating Michigan at the big house, 31-12. Texas looked in control the whole game and consistently drove down the field in every first half drive. QB Quinn Ewers looked spectacular and definitely put himself in the early season heisman race. Questions are rising about the Michigan offense though as the wolverines as they only had 286 total yards. Michigan QB Davis Warren looked alright going 22/33 for 204 and a TD. The Wolverines lacked big explosive plays and fell down to an early 24-3 Texas lead at Half. The 2nd biggest storyline of the season had to be the Northern Illinois Huskies upsetting the No.5 Notre Dame Irish in South Bend. The Huskies won 16-14 in a poor offensive game from both teams. The Huskies blocked 2 field goals in the game, including the potential 52 yard game winning field goal as time expired. ND QB Riley Leonard played very poorly going 20/32 for 163 and 2 INT. The one good thing for the Irish is their defense is constantly stopping teams in the red zone and RB Jeremiyah Love looks to be the next great Notre Dame running back. The Irish fell to No.18 in the poll, while the Huskies entered at No.25. The win became the MAC’s first ever non conference win against a top 5 team. Notre Dame lost for the 2nd time at 20+ favorite, the first coming in 1997 to northwestern. While the first 2 games mentioned lacked competitiveness and offensive spark, the oklahoma st vs Arkansas game lived up to its offensive hype. The teams combined for close to 1,000 yards total. The home favorite Oklohoma st defeated the Razorbacks in OT. Arkansas initially came out with a 21-7 halftime lead, but OKST came back and went up 31-28. Arkansas got the ball back with 1 minute left and kicked a game tying field goal as time expired. In the first OT both teams missed field goals. Then with the ball first in 2OT OKST scored and converted the 2PT conversion. The Arkansas offense got the ball to try and tie again, but couldn’t convert a first down and lost the game. After an incredible 2nd week of the college football season we are already looking ahead to next week, week 3. Not a ton of big games with only 1 ranked vs ranked game when No.24 Boston college visits No.6 Missouri. College gameday is heading to Columbia, South Carolina as the LSU come to town to face the Gamecocks. Big noon kickoff is going to Wiscosin as the Alabama Crimson Tide come to Madison. In-state rivals Notre Dame and Purdue play each other for the Shillelagh Trophy in West Lafayette. ND won the game 27-12 2 years ago in South Bend. Other In-state rivals Oregon and Oregon st play. This will be their first matchup since last year. Since then 10 teams including Oregon have left the PAC-12 leaving Oregon st and washington st alone. The game will be at Oregon St as the Beaver hope to crush their Rival the Oregon Ducks dreams of making the playoffs and showing the country what they are made of.
It’s hard to believe 2 weeks have already gone by but, more to this already crazy eventful season to come!
