After an exciting basketball season last year, the NBA is back for their 78th season. A lot of big offseason moves for teams such as the Knicks, who now have star center Karl-Anthony Towns, and the Lakers with Bronny James playing with his father Lebron James. Let’s take a look at all the teams and how this season will play out.
The Western Conference is elite as always, but the Eastern Conference is showing some major improvements, holding some of the strongest teams and players in the league.
The New York Knicks, as mentioned earlier, have made some big trades in the offseason. The Knicks obtained players Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns at the cost of losing players Donte Divincenzo, Bojan Bogdanović, Julius Randle, and a haul of first round picks. The Knicks have absolutely stacked their starting lineup, so, if they are able to stay healthy, they are looking to win their first title since 1973. Many other teams in the east will be bunched up like last season such as the Bucks, Pacers, 76ers, and Knicks fighting for those 2-5 seeds. The Boston Celtics, last year’s champions, are as good as ever and will likely be leading the east.
On the other hand the Western Conference will be dominant with stars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the Thunder, Nikola Jokić for the Nuggets, and Anthony Edwards for the Timberwolves. Those three teams are likely to be leading the pack as we saw last season. This year’s NBA draft, we saw Bronny James drafted with the 55th overall pick to the Los Angeles Lakers, set to play with his father Lebron James. Although he is unlikely to show any major contributions to the team, it will be a part of a historical moment in sports.
With all these new changes and star players this season is looking to be a great one. We’ll have to wait and see how this season plays out and who will become the 2025 NBA champions.
