The week of thanksgiving is arguably one of the best sports weeks of the year. You have rivalry weekend in college football, NFL thanksgiving games, and NBA and NHL. But arguably the most important, college basketball feast week. For those unfamiliar, feast week is the time when some of the best teams in the country face off against each other in 2 or 3 game mini tournaments. The first MTE to cover is the Maui invitational. Heavy favorite and Back to back NCAA champions UCONN lost 3 games! The Huskies fell in OT in their first game to Memphis, and then lost to Colorado off a game winning shot and lost to Dayton in the 8th place game by double digits! Head coach Dan hurley recently said they would never participate in one ever again. The surprise team of the tourney was definitely Memphis who beat UCONN and then Michigan St to advance to the Championship where they lost to Auburn. The tigers are now ranked in the AP at the number 16 slot. The Maui champion Auburn beat No.5 Iowa st, No.20 UNC and Memphis en route to winning the programs first Maui invitational tournament. One of the other 8 teams tournament going was in the bahamas. Louisville, Indiana, Gonzaga, Davidson, Providence, west Virginia, Arizona and Oklahoma. Coming into the tourney, Gonzaga and IU were expected to win, both of whom were upset by Louisville and West Virginia in Overtime. Louisville beat West Virginia in the semifinals, but lost in the championship game to Oklahoma who is now at No.21 in the AP poll. A new MTE ( Multi team event) was started that year, in the players era festival tournament out in las vegas. The catch that makes this so different from the other MTE was that the winning team would receive 1.5 million dollars in NIL money. Oregon defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide who fell to No.10 in the AP poll, while the Ducks came from unranked up 13 spots to the No.12 position. Other notable results from the tourney were Creighton losing twice, Rutgers freshman duo Ace Bailey and Dyland Harper going off, and Notre Dame not winning a single game. In state team Purdue won the Rady shiners children classic in san diego, defeating NC state in the first game, and then beating ranked opponent Ole Miss in championship off a Myles Colvin put back shot from a Braden Smith miss, that put the Boilers in the lead by 2 80-78 with 0.5 seconds left. The boilers won, and junior Trey Kuafman-Renn was named the MVP of the mini tournament.
