In breaking news on Monday March 24, messages between government officials within a group chat were revealed by journalist Jeffrey Goldberg. Big government officials including National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, Vice President JD Vance, CIA officers Joe Kent and John Ratcliffe, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and many more were communicating on serious military matters in a text messaging group chat through the program Signal. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz appears to have accidentally added The Atlantic’s Editor-in-Chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, to the chat before the officials discussed upcoming strikes.
In the chat, they discussed plans to attack the Houthis in Yemen. The text messages included detailed plans of an air attack dropping bombs as well as launching strike drones. There were plans to target Yemen’s ‘top missile guy’ in his girlfriend’s residence. The plans included timing, however did not disclose specific locations. The attacks on March 15 ultimately resulted in 53 people dead and 30 targets hit including training facilities, drone infrastructure, weapon and vehicle manufacturing and storage, and more.
Much of the information was deemed sensitive information, however the Trump administration insisted that no classified information was shared. President Trump told NBC News on Saturday that he would not fire anyone involved in the group chat, and that he still had confidence in Waltz.
“I don’t fire people because of fake news and because of witch hunts,” he said.
Many Republicans and Democrats are asking for an inquiry. Some are asking for resignations.
Judge James Boasberg has all ordered all messages to be preserved. Sources: BBC News, NBC News
