Officer Rodriguez is one of the SRO at Carmel High School, on Monday, August 25 he had shared a little bit about himself and his career. He has been a police officer for 15 years while being a SRO for 4 years. He enjoys being an SRO and making connections with students around him. Although he hasn’t been an officer for his whole life, he had started on the medical side of the military. According to the Carmel Clay Schools Website, Officer Rodriguez has worked in many different areas in the Carmel Police department including Chief’s Honor guard, Drug Recognition Expert, Drone Pilot, Emergency Response Group, Crisis Intervention Officer, and a Spanish Interpreter. Officer Rodriguez had been inspired to become a police officer from his older brother, who had started his time in Europe now currently a sergeant detective at Fishers police department. When starting out he had wanted to come to Carmel because when searching where to go he had found best training, best resources, and best equipment and it led him here. Including these good attributes the department has great training for stressful and suspenseful situations. Officer Rodriguez has had to make many split second decisions like what to do in life or death situations, while caught in one of these situations he has saved someone’s life before. Another benefit of the training in his department is how he has learned to stay calm in situations like this, with training and muscle memory he can make quick decisions and respond calmly to situations. Rodriguez feels this chosen path in his career has opened up a lot of opportunities while becoming a very positive experience.
