Indiana state lawmakers are considering passing House Bill 1001. This law would make it easier to build homes in Hamilton County as public hearings for establishing residential zones would be eliminated, meaning that there would be fewer restrictions on the sizes of homes and when they are built.
This law removes limits for how many private and commercial homes can be built, including apartments, by taking away local’s opportunity to object to more housing.
State lawmakers see this bill as an opportunity to expedite the building of homes to accommodate the state’s housing shortage, but lawmakers and residents local to Hamilton County fear for their voices being taken away when it comes to housing laws.
